Recover from colds faster!

Winter is almost here as temperatures drop, cars are iced over when we wake up and bundles of layers go on before we go outside. With winter comes the dreadful flu season. Between flu shots and constantly washing our hands most of us still somehow fall victim and get sick. When your sick it can be really hard to shake it off and most people have to put everything on hold and recover. However, with bills to pay and Christmas right around the corner, it doesn’t really seem like an option. Most people nowadays cannot afford a day off and if they take one, that’s all the time they get to get better. Recover from colds fast and get back to living nice with these steps!!

1. Rest

When I get sick, I try to put off taking care of myself until it’s too late. However, your immune system is constantly protecting us from all kinds of viruses. Your body communicates to you when it needs sleep in order to recover from colds fast. When we sleep, our body goes into intense recovery mode. It’s fighting the sickness in overdrive and we need to let it do it’s job and recover, even though it’s hard. If you are the back bone in a busy household, consider asking for help from a partner or a close friend to help keep you resting as often as possible.

Recover From Colds Fast!2. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!

Hydration is essential to speedy recovery. Water, clear broth or warm water with honey are excellent ways not only to hydrate your body but also to loosen up congestion. Whether you are sick or not, drinking water helps flush your system of toxins and function optimally. When you are under the weather, your body has an excess of these toxins and needs all the help it can get in order to recover from colds fast. Drinking water can also help fight fevers or if you are vomiting to replace the fluids you are losing.

3. Flush Your System

Along with hydration, there are many ways to get rid of the toxins that are in your body. Drinking water is a great step to include, but additional options can also speed up the process. My favorite way to open up my sinuses when it feels like I can’t breathe at all is a hot shower. Soaking in a hot shower and letting the bathroom get fogged up with steam, can open up your lungs. As your body and airways relax, the air passages in your chest and lungs open up, allowing for easier, more restful breathing. It also allows space to release the phlegm that has built up there. 2 to 3 times a day is the best frequency to produce the best results.

4. Apply Medication

Over the counter medication can help relieve flu symptoms and help with getting a good night’s rest. Decongestants can help release the congestion and open up your nasal passages to help with breathing. Pain relievers also can assist with body aches, head aches and fight fevers as well. Used in combination with the other steps, can really assist your body in bouncing back as soon as possible.

5. Consider Supplements

Vitamin C and Zinc have been recommended to improve the immune system and fight illness. Studies show that even taking vitamin C regularly can also help strengthen your immune system to prevent sickness. Vitamin C is used in the maintenance of bones, muscle, and blood vessels. You can naturally receive vitamin C vegetables and fruits, especially oranges and other citrus fruits. I personally have had excellent results from taking vitamin C when I felt  under the weather and was able to recover from colds fast.

6. If You Feel Slightly Better—-Don’t Push It

Many of us with drive and great perseverance, like to grind it out. We think pushing through and sweating it out, but that is not the case with serious colds. Once we have to prolong progress in our goals and finally rest, we are anxious to get back at it. It’s common to think that once you start to feel slightly better, that it’s been long enough to get back to work, but that’s not exactly the truth. If you push yourself too hard once you are just barely starting to feel better, it can make you feel even worse. Then you end up more sick and missing more days compared to being just a little more patient and been back at it sooner.
